Mormon Helping Hands

Every year our stake organizes community service projects so we can serve in our community and get them to know us as members of the church better. We volunteer every year for the Race for Humanity at the local community college. I took the older kids down to contribute our time. Dylan was not happy I was making him go. It was Friday, which at our house means video game day. He complained the whole way there and was not a happy camper. There was not a whole lot for us to do when we arrived to we started looking for vendors who need help setting up their booths. Dylan and I helped a man hang up the banners for his booth. After we had finished Dylan was beaming. He loved the way he felt serving this man and was ready for more! He even took off on his own and helped a few people without me with him. On the way home he had a smile on his face and couldn't stop talking about what he had done that afternoon. The other children had a good experience too, but for Dylan it was amazing to see his change of heart. We have decided as a family to do one service project a month in our community for FHE. What a good teaching experience to show my children how service can effect you. They wanted to create the AT&T bar for this picture.............silly kids!
